What is Sumdog Maths?
Sumdog is an innovative educational platform designed to make learning maths fun and engaging for students aged 5-14. Our mission is to close the attainment gap by helping children reach their full potential, providing an inclusive and enjoyable learning experience for all.
Adaptive learning
Sumdog's adaptive learning technology places every child at their unique learning level using our diagnostic test which provides a snapshot of strengths and areas of improvement for teachers to use to easily identify next steps. Questions are then tailored to each child to help introduce, revise and stretch at a pace that is right for them. Children practise their maths on Sumdog side by side, without any anxiety about their ability compared to their classmates.
Boosts fluency and confidence
Sumdog's new Fluency Booster adaptivity aims to help children develope a deep, conceptual understanding of numbers and operations, rather than just memorising key facts. When practicing independently, teachers can have confidence that their students are working on the right skills. Sumdog's adaptive questions focus purely on core number skills: Number and Place Value, Counting and Number Patterns, Number Bonds and Relationships and Arithmetic. Sumdog ensures that children master these core number skills in order to move on with classroom teaching of more complex mathematical problems.
Sumdog questions are aligned to key curriculums including National Curriculum, Curriculum for Excellence, White Rose Maths scheme of learning and Common Core. Teachers can set targeted practice for the whole-class, groups or individuals to help with intervention and to provide consolidation of prior learning for students at varying levels. Practice tasks can be set as an in-class activity or as homework.
Formative tests and automated reporting
Sumdog provides a ready-made bank of low-stakes tests that can be used as part of your school's formative assessment cycle. Teachers can also create custom tests on a particular topic and reset the same test to assess progress. Sumdog automarks all tests and practice tasks, providing in-depth individual and class reports to help assess performance and plan further practice.
Engagement for all
By incorporating over 35 games into the learning process, Sumdog captures students' attention and motivates them to improve their maths skills across the full primary curriculum. With virtual rewards, an avatar, house and garden and the ability to play against friends, Sumdog makes maths lessons fun. Teachers can also set inter-class competitions or take part in Sumdog's termly regional and national maths contests to inspire friendly competition.

The product of Sumdog Maths is fantastic. I don't know any staff member or pupil who has a bad word to say about the online software. It is easily accessible from all devices. Staff and pupils love to compete alongside and against each other. They particularly enjoy competing in Council wide, Scottish and UK competitions where they can see progress and leaderboard development. The games used are age appropriate, self explanatory and easy to use. Above all this, the staff at Sumdog are fantastic and couldn't be more helpful! Offering training experiences, constant support via e-mail and phone, school visits to celebrate success - the list goes on. It has been an absolute pleasure working with the Sumdog Team and witnessing our staff and learners enjoying the Sumdog experience.

The variety of games and the way they are integrated into the work set has seen excellent engagement from the children. The interface is extremely easy to use and accounts are managed/setup automatically. One flaw - that staff accounts cannot be managed manually so that temporary staff and teaching assistants can also be involved.
